If you want to make your appliances long-lasting, then you need to do things to keep them in good working order. While we are a professional appliance repair company, we still appreciate when homeowners do what they can to keep their appliances working well. Below, we have included some tips and tricks that we have learned throughout our careers, which could be greatly beneficial to homeowners. We know what types of things damage washers and dryers, so we know how to avoid these things and take good care of the machines.
Never put a load into the washer dryer that is too big
A sure shot way to damage your washer or dryer is to put a load into the machine that is far too big. Time and time again, we have seen homeowners jam pack their washers and dryers with far too many close. It’s very important to do an adequate sized load when you are washing clothes. Instead of doing as many possible clothes as you can fit into the machine, downsize your load and do two separate loads instead. This is a good way to keep your machine working properly and keep it from developing damage. What happens when you put a load into the machine that is too big, is that water has a hard time getting into the machine, because there are so many clothes inside, and water has a hard time draining from the machine because it is so confined and there has been so much water absorbed by the clothes. Most importantly though, putting a load into the washer dryer that is too big can ruin the cycle of the machine and cause it to become unbalanced. An unbalanced machine would be very loud and it could potentially damage the machine to a state that is unrecoverable.
Always put the recommended amount of detergent in
Using too much detergent for your washer can definitely damage it. You always want to put the proper amount of detergent in, to ensure that the machine runs properly.
Remember to use each “HE” or high efficiency detergent for HE washers
High efficiency washers need a special type of detergent. If you do not use this detergent, then the machine will not function correctly. Be sure to purchase the exact type of detergent that your machine needs.
Use hotter temperatures and a medium spin speed
You will want to use hotter temperatures for your washer because this will keep your clothes cleaner and it will avoid yellowish coloring on whites. It’s also important to use a medium spin speed, because using too fast of a spin speed could cause the machine to become unbalanced. If you were to accommodate a large load of laundry with a very fast spin speed, this would definitely make the machine become unbalanced and it could ruin the appliance.
Use a short exhaust vent for your dryer
The shorter the exhaust vent is for your dryer, the less distance all of the debris has to travel. If you use a short exhaust vent, you’ll make it easier for your dryer to get rid of debris and it will run more efficiently.
